1983년 5월 13일에 발매되었다.
호모섹슈얼한 표지와 가사로 당시 언더그라운드에 센세이션을 일으킨 곡이다. 비록 싱글 차트에 들진 못했지만 인디 차트에선 3위에 달했다. 이후 리믹스를 한 버전으로 앨범에 수록되었다. 조니 마는 "많은 좋은 곡들이 있지만 'Hand In Glove'가 우리의 진정한 주제가이다"라고 언급했다. 그는 스미스 전기작가 사이먼 고다드에게 이 곡은 필시 모리세이가 나와 그에 대해 쓴 곡일것이라며 곡에 대한 정보를 제공했고, 이곡에는 사랑과 우정, 앞으로 나아감에 대한 진지한 열정이 담겨있다고 말했다. 그러나 이곡의 마지막 가사가 “But I’ll probably never see you again(하지만 난 널 다시는 보지 못할거야)” 라는 것은 매우 의미심장하다.
