1. 개요[편집]

The Internationale

영어로 된 인터내셔널가에는 고전 영국식 영어 버전, 미국식 영어 버전, 그리고 1990년에 빌리 브래그라는 영국의 싱어송라이터 겸 좌파 활동가가 개사한 버전까지 모두 세 가지 버전이 있다.

고전 영국식 영어 가사는 인터내셔널가의 작사가인 외젠 포티에가 직접 번안한 것으로 고어가 많고 곡조와 가사의 음절이 부자연스러워서 부르기 어렵다는 평이 있다.

미국식 영어 가사는 찰스 호프 커가 번역한 것으로 1909년 세계산업노동자연맹의 Little Red Songbook (자그마한 붉은 노래집)의 18쪽[1]에 수록되면서 널리 알려졌다.

빌리 브래그의 번안곡은 냉전 종식기에 등장한 만큼 구좌파적인 노동해방에 대한 내용뿐만 아니라 인종차별이나 생태주의, 비폭력주의 같은 신좌파에서의 요소도 언급하는 가장 현대적인 번안곡이다. 오늘날에는 이 곡이 사실상 표준이 된 상태다.

이 밖에도 영미권의 여러 좌파 아티스트들이 작사한 수많은 번안곡들이 있다.
