1. 개요[편집]

미국의 애니 제작사. 이름의 유래는 필름(FILM)+애니메이션(ANIMATION)이다. 설립자는 놈 프레스콧, 루 샤이머, 핼 서덜랜드이며 1963년 캘리포니아 로스앤젤레스에 설립. 주로 저예산 어린이 애니를 많이 제작한다. 작화 특징은 리미티드 애니메이션이며 장고나 히맨에서 봤듯이 캐릭터 움직임은 꽤나 부드럽지만 뱅크씬이 은근히... 정도가 아니라 상당히 많고 매화마다 나오는 변신장면은 물론이고, 뒤로 가면 갈수록 앞에서 써먹었던 셀화에 약간 효과를 추가한다던가 복붙 혹은 조금 확대/축소를 한다던가 하는 식으로 재활용을 하는데 특히 움직임이 많은 액션장면에서 그런 점이 두드러진다. 특히 엑스트라나 캐릭터 디자인 우려먹기가 많다.
일행이 잰걸음으로 이동하는 묘하게 프레임이 높아 보이는 횡스크롤 장면이 나온다면 이 회사 물건이라고 보면 된다. 1989년 Westinghouse는 프랑스 화장품 회사인 L'Oréal 이 이끄는 투자 컨소시엄인 Paravision International에 필메이션을 매각했고 . 판매가 완료되기 전에 Westinghouse는 1989년 2월 3일에 필메이션 스튜디오를 폐쇄했으며 L'Oréal에는 필메이션 라이브러리만 남아 역사속으로 사라졌다.
