>브라질 민간 회사 엥게사는 1980년 대 초 주력 전차 시장의 기회를 발견했습니다. 사우디아라비아는 새로운 전차를 찾고 있었고, 브라질 부대도 관심이 있었습니다. EE T-1 오소리오는 대부분 기존의 전차와 비슷했으나, 기존 섀시를 사용하지는 않았습니다. 오소리오의 복합 장갑은 가벼우면서도 효과가 높았으며, 기관총과 활강포를 탑재하고, 40 mph 넘는 속도로 이동했습니다. 덕분에 장갑력, 화력, 이동성을 모두 확보할 수 있었습니다.

>The private Brazilian firm Engesa saw a market opportunity for main battle tanks in the early 1980s. Saudi Arabia was looking for a new tank, and Brazil’s army was interested as well. The design for the EE T-1 Osorio was conventional in most ways although not based on any existing chassis. Its composite armor was light but highly effective, it sported a machine gun and a smoothbore main, and it zoomed along roads at upwards of 40 mph. Thus it combined protection, firepower, and mobility.

>In 1989 the Osorio’s export variant, the EE-T2, won a tank competition held by Saudi Arabia. This was all the more impressive considering that it beat out successful main battle tanks like the American M1 Abrams and the British Challenger 1. The Saudi government therefore agreed to purchase over 300 Osorios. However, out of gratitude for U.S. intervention during the Gulf War, the Saudis later canceled the order in favor of the M1. Suddenly without its main buyer, Engesa went bankrupt, and the Osorio never entered full production.
