>'아가멤논의 마스크'로 알려진 황금 장례용 마스크는 트로이를 발견한 하인리히 슐리만이라는 고고학자가 1876년에 발굴했습니다. 그리스 남쪽 미케네 지방의 왕족의 무덤에서 시신의 얼굴을 덮은 상태로 발견된 이 마스크는 트로이 전쟁에서 그리스인을 이끌었던 전설적인 지도자 아가멤논과 연관된 것으로 알려지기도 했었습니다. 지금은 아가멤논이 (실존했다면) 살았던 시대는 마스크 제작 시점부터 300년이 이후라고 알려져 있지만, 그래도 이 마스크는 고대 그리스의 가장 상징적인 예술품 중 하나로 남아 있습니다.

>The golden funeral mask known as the 'Mask of Agamemnon' was unearthed in 1876 by Heinrich Schliemann, the pioneering archaeologist who also discovered Troy. It was found covering the face of a body in a royal burial shaft at Mycenae in southern Greece and became associated with the legendary leader of the Greeks in the Trojan War, Agamemnon. Though we now know he lived three centuries after its creation (if he lived at all), the mask remains one of the most iconic artworks of ancient Greece.
