In 1960, Mumbai became the capital of Maharashtra and many modern structures were built in the new capital. Nowadays, due in part to the Stock Exchange, companies establishing their presence in the city, and other areas of industry that all experienced growth, Mumbai is one of the most populous cities in the world.
